Cycling events in the North West of England
Lake District, Lancashire, Cheshire and the Manchester racing scene.
The Lake District has the hardest climbs in England outside Dartmoor — Hardknott and Wrynose in the same ride is a brutal rite of passage. The Fred Whitton Challenge, a 112-mile sportive over seven Lake District passes in May, is rightly feared and revered.
Lancashire rolls gently by comparison, and Cheshire's Pennine edge (Mow Cop, Wizard Hill) provides a weekend playground for Manchester and Liverpool riders. The Manchester Velodrome remains the national home of track cycling.
