Gravel cycling in the UK has exploded in the last few years. Events range from laid-back social off-road sportives on forestry tracks and canal paths, to serious gravel races like the Dirty Reiver, the Gralloch, or the South Downs Way Double.
Most gravel events welcome cyclocross bikes, gravel bikes, and hardtail MTBs — expect mixed surfaces, unpredictable weather, and the friendliest start lines in cycling. Distances typically run 50–200 km with multi-day bikepacking events for the seriously adventurous.
